Exploratorium Holiday Gift Guide

Searching for unique holiday gifts that explore scientific concepts? Our 2017 holiday gift guide offers fun, interactive items to inspire future engineers, musicians, and perfumers, among many others.

Change her world, one afternoon at a time. This is the slogan for Yellow Scope, a company that makes science kits for girls. Started in Portland by scientists Marcie Colledge, PhD, and Kelly McCollum, MPH, Yellow Scope combines a passion for science education, and for closing the gender gap in STEM learning. Yellow Scope’s Foundation Chemistry Kit features real lab equipment, chemical reagents, and art supplies. This kit will keep burgeoning scientists occupied for hours, and promote confidence in girls so they can design their own experiments.

If the kids on your shopping list have requested video games, then check out our Code Gamer. This game-based introduction to writing code uses four sensorbots, all with astonishing powers. Melt blocks of ice when you warm the temperature sensor with your hand. Or reveal items hidden in dark spaces when you shine the light sensor. As they advance through the game’s levels, players learn the basics of the Arduino programming language and can apply their new programming knowledge to personal projects.

The Foundation Chemistry Kit and Code Gamer are only two of our fun, hands-on, science-based holiday gifts. Peruse those, and more creative offerings, below.
