Amazonite is a variety of Microcline, also referred to as an alkali feldspar mineral. This crystal forms in small prismatic crystals, or large masses. Amazonite has a chemical composition of KAlSi 3 O 8, and its green color is thought to be caused by small quantities of lead and water in the feldspar.
This large mineral specimen measures 8” high x 6” length x 4” depth
with Mohs Hardness of 6-6.5 and a triclinic crystal structure. This specimen is from the Minas Gerais region of Brazil. Amazonite is also known as the Amazon stone, because it was thought to have been discovered at the Amazon River Basin in Brazil. However, there are no deposits found there.
