Amazonite is a variety of Microcline, also referred to as an alkali feldspar mineral. This crystal forms in small prismatic crystals, or
large masses. Amazonite has a chemical composition of KAlSi 3 O 8 and its green color is thought to be caused by small quantities of lead and water in the feldspar.
This large mineral specimen measures 7” x 3” length with Mohs Hardness of 6-6.5 and a triclinic crystal structure.
This specimen is from the Minas Gerais region of Brazil.
Amazonite is also known as the Amazon stone,& because it was thought to have been discovered at the Amazon River Basin in Brazil. However, there are no deposits found there.
