Location: Texas.Petrified palmwood is from a group of fossil wood that contains rod-like structures within the regular grain of the silicified wood. These rod-like structures are sclerenchyma bundles that make up the woody tissues of the tree that gave the wood it’s vertical strength.
Petrified wood is a fossil in which the organic remains have been
replaced by minerals in the slow process of being replaced with
stone. The end result is petrified wood, a plant.This piece of petrified palmwood is from the Catchoula Formation of
Texas. It measures 5.5” x 5”. -
