Mosasaurs are considered one of the Great Marine Reptiles that ruled the seas 100 million years ago during the Cretaceous period. Although they are often referred to as the T-Rex of the seas, they were not dinosaurs, but reptiles that returned to the sea.
Mosasaurs were roughly the size of a school bus, with long and sleek bodies and arms and legs that evolved into flippers. Their jaws were double hinged and contained numerous conical teeth designed for grasping and swallowing prey whole, like a snake.
