Orthoceras, meaning "straight horn" in Greek, are a genus of extinct cephalopods that lived 370 million years ago across the Earth's oceans. They are the ancient ancestors of nautilus, squids, octopus, and cuttlefish.
This decorative triangle box is carved from Devonian-period marble that is embedded with numerous orthoceras fossils. The lid has an ornamental spiral shaped carving on the top.
