Red banded jasper is a striking variety of chalcedony known for its layered banding and rich red hues that occur from iron oxides. Composed primarily of microcrystalline quartz, it forms over time as silica-rich sediments are compacted and mineralized, often in volcanic or hydrothermal environments.
